How diverse is America? Way more than most people think!

This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions about the United States as a country and as a place to live in. Most people from outside of the US still believe to this day that all Americans are cowboys, who eat unhealthy food and who do not know much about the rest of the world. This, however, is far from being the truth and there have been considerable changes to these stereotypes.

First of all, the US has always been a country of immigrants and that definitely shows today in terms of diversity. Many different languages are spoken (especially in your bigger cities) and you can find food from all over the world basically anywhere. So the stereotype of having one “typical American” has definitely become more of a myth than a fact. This also has had a big impact on the food culture, as you can basically find any type of food anywhere. That also includes healthy and vegan options, which have really been on the rise over the past decade or so. Some might argue that these options are even more widespread in the US (especially on the East and West Coasts) than it is the case in other parts of the world.

Last but not least, there are huge regional differences in the US, more than probably on most other continents and very similar to Europe actually. It is really difficult to compare areas such as California and Oklahoma, New England and South Florida, or even certain cities within the same state. Texas (with cities such as Austin, Lubbock or El Paso), Florida (with cities such as Miami, Jacksonville or Naples), or New York (with cities such as New York City, Albany or Buffalo) all present huge cultural differences within their own states, which makes living and traveling there very interesting.

So, as we often say here at Sports & Study USA, be open-minded and embrace every opportunity and in this case every region in the US. They all have different things to offer and in a lot of cases you just have to see it for yourself to appreciate it. Our team has travelled all over the country, so we know basically every town and area, so feel free to always ask us if you have some questions or concerns about a certain area or university. And we promise, if you are open minded and willing to discover new things, you might actually find out for yourself that the US is a lot more diverse than you actually think!
